Doh!! Won’t be back with a bang quite as quickly as we thought!

We have made the very difficult decision to remain closed until at least the New Year. We are doing this based upon the reports we have received from organisations within the hospitality trade and the news that we won’t be downgraded to tier one allowing more than one household to mix inside.

To protect our staff and for The Far Canal to survive this time, we see no choice but to remain closed. It is not a decision we’ve made lightly but would rather open when we can give our guests the full Far Canal experience.
We hope all our loyal customers and followers understand this, we’d like to thank those who have emailed and sent messages of support and we look forward to welcoming you all back when it’s safe to do so.

We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year – we’ll see you in the not too distant future.

The Far Canal at Wrantage, not your average country boozer…

The Far Canal at Wrantage, not your average country boozer, but a pub with personality! Looking for a pub in Taunton? Based in the beautiful Somerset countryside and within easy reach from Taunton, the Far Canal offers the opportunity of drinking, eating and socialising somewhere that’s just a little bit different. You are always assured of a warm welcome, bring the better half, 4 legged friends and even the nippers are welcome. Whether its a pitstop for a quick pint, a lingering leisurely lunch or a scrumptious sociable supper, we provide the freshest food including vegetarian and gluten-free options.

The Far Canal has a fabulous landscaped garden where you can relax in the summer with a cheeky glass of something chilled and soak up some rays or in the winter a roaring log fire to snuggle down near and warm your cockles.

The Far Canal, far from what you might expect.

We are now open but things are a little bit different here at The Far Canal. Our main differences are customers are not allowed to stand to drink anywhere on the premises at the moment (no drinking at the bar we’re afraid) and we’ve had to reduce our menu to make sure our kitchen is as safe as possible. We are still making as much of our food as possible from scratch so you’ll still get the same great, delicious tastes!

When you arrive we will explain the changes but we’ve also added more signage and floor markings to guide you.
We have been busy ensuring the pub is COVID secure, following all guidance and regulations set by the government and have completed a full Covid-19 risk assessment

All staff have completed training modules relating to working during the current situation

As of  Thursday 24th Sept 2020, the below new restrictions and laws will be in force and we expect all visitors to adhere to these. As a licensed premises we will face huge fines if we don’t ensure all new rules are followed.
FACE COVERINGS – All customers will be expected to wear face masks upon arrival. These coverings can be removed once you are sat at a table. When seated you do not have to wear your mask, however if you get up to go to the toilet or to leave the premises you will be expected to wear your mask before you are standing. In the event of you forgetting a mask, we have masks available for you to purchase. We are fully aware of the fact that some people are exempt from wearing masks due to various illnesses; if you fall under this category you will need to have proof of exemption in the form of an official card/document.
TABLE SERVICE – Upon arrival you will be directed (via the one way system) into the bar, passing the sanitiser station. Please use it.
Once inside you will have to “check in”. There will be 2 options for this. The first, quickest and simplest would be to scan the NHS QR code on the bar. Please download the app from either the app store or Play store. The second option for those that don’t have a smart phone will be the trusty old pen and paper.
Once “checked in” you will be shown to a table and your order for food and/or drinks will be taken.
We must remind all customers to follow the ‘rule of 6’ and stay at their table during their stay, trips to the toilet permitted but please pop your mask back on, as stated above.
AT THE BAR We now by law have to close no later than 10pm. Please note that this is not a last order time but a time by which all customers have to have vacated the premises. Wednesday-Saturday we will take last orders at 9:30pm on the understanding that you’ll have finished up and ready to be out by the 10pm curfew time set by government.
Thank you for your ongoing support of us here at The Far Canal…Take care, stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon

At The Far Canal we produce delicious, home-cooked food, freshly prepared at our premises. At the moment we’ve had to reduce our menu to enable us to keep everyone as safe as possible but our menu includes many Far Canal favourites.

We are able to offer a take-away service from our main menu but, to allow our kitchen to produce food of the highest quality, pick-up times will need to be adhered to and if the pub is busy we may ask you to collect from the garden bar. If you’d like to order, please call us and we can take your order and advise of the time to collect.

Please take a look at our menus below and we also have a daily specials board available.
